Conscious Leadership “A leader is best when people barely know he exists”

19. January 2021

Which leader comes to mind, when you read the following phrase?
“A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” Laozi

I was lucky to get to know several awesome leaders during my career. One of them is Bill Collingwood. Bill demonstrated great leadership during a critical implementation of a complex SAP project and this was successfully achieved while at the same time there was a major organisational restructuring happening, which added significantly to the complexity of the project.

During a time of big uncertainty and high stress levels for everybody, Bill was a truly conscious leader in that he was able to nourish and improve the team engagement. His team demonstrated outstanding performance by ensuring that critical medicines successfully reached their patients across the globe on time.

And Bill always kept his sense of humour, celebrating the “COMET” go-live by blowing the alphorn in traditional Swiss costume in front of a surprised team. Thank you, Bill!
